Overview

Efficient 208–240V rack protection

The P80g is designed for environments where utility power is generally stable but outages and voltage fluctuations still occur. Line-interactive topology provides voltage regulation through AVR without continuous double-conversion — improving efficiency while maintaining reliable battery backup during outages (typical 2–6 ms transfer). With up to 5 kVA of internal-battery capacity in a 2U chassis and IEC-based output aligned with rack PDUs, it is well suited to distributed deployments prioritizing efficiency, simplicity, and cost control.

P80g vs online double-conversion

Line-interactive or online?

Compared to online UPS platforms such as the P91g, the P80g is designed for applications where full-time conditioning isn’t required — offering higher operating efficiency, lower complexity, and reduced cost while still providing battery backup and voltage regulation. Online systems are selected when zero transfer time or continuous conditioning is required for sensitive loads or unstable utility environments.

Model selection

Three models, 3–5 kVA

Model Capacity Form factor Output Dimensions (W×D×H) Weight Receptacles
P80g-3000 3000 VA / 2700 W 2U 208/220/230/240 V 17.2 × 23.6 × 3.5 in 61.9 lb (1) C19 + (8) C13

P80g-5KTB 5000 VA / 4500 W 4U (5000 + transformer) 208/120 or 240/120 V 17.2 × 23.6 × 7.0 in 224 lb (2) L6-30R + (2) L6-20R + (12) 5-15/20R

Pure sine wave output; input range 162–290 VAC. Optional receptacle configurations: L6-30R, L6-20R, L6-15R, 6-15/20R. The P80g-5KTB bundles the P80g-5000 (2U) with a 2U isolation transformer (4U total) for split 208/120 or 240/120 V output.

The isolated variant

P80g-5KTB — the only isolated line-interactive UPS in the range

The P80g-5KTB is the P80g-5000 bundled at the factory with a 2U isolation transformer: 4 U total, 224 lb, giving split 208/120 or 240/120 V output. Everything else isolated in the Xtreme Power line is online double-conversion. This is the one place you can get galvanic isolation without paying for continuous conversion.

That matters when the site has a 208–240 V feed, needs 120 V outlets, and has a load that is sensitive to common mode noise — but does not need zero transfer time. Retail back-of-house, AV racks, and light industrial control are the usual cases.

It is a real isolation transformer, not an autotransformer. An autotransformer changes voltage using a single shared winding, so input and output stay electrically connected: no galvanic separation, and nothing for common mode noise. The 5KTB weighs 224 lb against 78.5 lb for the plain P80g-5000, and that 145 lb difference is the transformer. If a competing 5 kVA step-down quote is much lighter, check which one it is.

When to choose something else. If the load cannot tolerate a 2–6 ms transfer, or the site runs from a generator, step up to online double-conversion — the TX91 covers 3.8–10 kVA with isolation integrated. If you want to size the transformer separately from the UPS, or add isolation to a P80g already installed, use a plain P80g-5000 with an XPD-IT isolation PDU downstream. Sizing and wiring for that route is on the UPS with isolation transformer page.

Whichever route, connect the sensitive equipment directly to the transformer output. Isolation is established there and nowhere else, so a power strip after it gives back most of the benefit.

Battery runtimes

Runtime at full load

Approximate full-load (100%) runtime in minutes, with internal batteries and with optional external battery packs:

Rack integration

IEC output and standardized deployment

The P80g’s IEC-based output (C19/C13 on the 3000) aligns with IEC rack PDU architecture, supporting consistent installation across multiple sites and rack-level power distribution strategies used in enterprise and telecommunications environments. This standardized outlet design simplifies procurement and deployment across distributed infrastructure.

Add outlet-level control and metering with an intelligent rack PDU.

Common questions

P80g — frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the P80g-5000 and the P80g-5KTB?

The 5KTB is the P80g-5000 bundled at the factory with a 2U isolation transformer, 4U total and 224 lb against 78.5 lb. Both give split 208/120 or 240/120 V output. The transformer adds galvanic separation, which is what addresses common mode noise. Choose the 5KTB when the load is sensitive to ground-referenced interference; choose the plain 5000 when you only need the voltage split.

Is the transformer in the 5KTB an isolation transformer or an autotransformer?

A true isolation transformer, with separate primary and secondary windings and no electrical path between them. An autotransformer shares a single winding, changes voltage perfectly well, and provides no galvanic separation at all. The 145 lb weight difference between the 5KTB and the plain 5000 is the giveaway: isolation transformers are heavy because the windings are separate.

Line-interactive or online at this size?

Line-interactive covers five of the ten common power problems and online double-conversion covers nine. The P80g corrects voltage using transformer taps without drawing on the battery, at a transfer time of 2 to 6 ms. Step up to online when the load cannot tolerate that transfer, when the site runs from a generator, or when noise and harmonics are the complaint rather than voltage level.

What voltages does it accept and deliver?

Input range is 162 to 290 VAC. The 3000 outputs 208/220/230/240 V. The 5000 and 5KTB output split 208/120 or 240/120 V, which is what lets a 208 V rack feed 120 V equipment.

Can I extend the runtime?

Yes, with external battery packs: the P90-BP72 on the 3000 and the P80-BP72X on the 5000, up to two packs. Runtime at full load runs from a couple of minutes internally to roughly 27 minutes with two packs.

Is the P80g TAA compliant?

Yes, confirmed by the manufacturer. Note that the certification listings for this 208-240 V platform are CE and RoHS; there is no UL listing on this range.

What is the XBDM and can I use one?

A maintenance bypass and distribution module that lets the UPS be serviced or replaced without dropping the load. It is available on the P80g-3000.

Where does the P80g fit against the P80?

Voltage. The P80 is the 120 V line-interactive platform; the P80g is the 208 to 240 V equivalent for racks fed at higher voltage. Same topology, different input.
