M90S-6S modular single-phase UPS

The M90S-6S is a modular online double-conversion UPS for single-phase facilities scaling beyond traditional UPS limits. A six-slot enclosure accepts hot-swappable 6 kW power modules and battery modules, scaling from 6 kW to 24 kW with N+1 redundancy, modular runtime expansion, and phased deployment in one platform. Unity output power factor (kVA = kW), internal maintenance bypass and output distribution, and up to 98% ECO-mode efficiency make it a centralized alternative to multiple fixed-capacity UPS systems. TAA compliant; UL-1778 (TUV) / cUL listed.

Overview

Scalable modular power architecture

The M90S-6S operates as a modular UPS platform within single-phase infrastructure — bridging the gap between rack-level UPS and three-phase facility UPS. Capacity grows incrementally by adding 6 kW power modules, and redundancy is implemented as N+1 within the same system, so UPS capacity aligns to actual load while preserving headroom for future growth. It is typically deployed in electrical rooms supporting distributed infrastructure, where multiple separate UPS would otherwise be required, or in facilities approaching single-phase capacity limits.

Key features

What the M90S-6S delivers

Scalability

Add 6 kW modules as needed

Start at 6 kW and grow to 24 kW by adding hot-swappable 6 kW power modules into the enclosure’s universal slots — aligning UPS capacity to actual load instead of oversizing on day one.

Redundancy

N+1 within one system

Populate one module beyond the load requirement for N+1 redundancy in a single frame, up to 18 kW (three load modules plus one redundant) — the availability of multiple UPS without the footprint, wiring, or management overhead. The 24 kW build uses all four power slots for capacity and is non-redundant.

Serviceability

Hot-swap power & battery modules

Power and battery modules are hot-swappable, so capacity changes, redundancy, and repairs happen without dropping the load or scheduling a full-system outage.

Power

Unity output power factor

Unity PF (kVA = kW) delivers full usable watts — up to 24 kW from 24 kVA — so you never oversize to cover a derated power factor, unlike legacy modular platforms rated 0.8–0.9.

Integration

Internal bypass + distribution

A full wrap-around maintenance bypass and up to four configurable receptacle panels live inside the frame, eliminating external bypass cabinets and distribution gear and cutting installation cost.

Runtime

Modular battery expansion

Battery modules (16 × 12V 580W each) scale runtime per configuration, with optional BC7 battery cabinets for extended autonomy — runtime out to fifteen modules.

Where it fits

The core modular tier

The M90S-6S is the core platform in the M90S modular family, sized for single-phase deployments that need scalable capacity and redundancy in one enclosure — above rack-level UPS, below three-phase facility systems.

Why modular

Modular vs traditional UPS

Traditional fixed-capacity UPS must be oversized up front or replaced as infrastructure grows. A modular platform lets capacity, redundancy, and runtime scale incrementally within one system.

  Modular (M90S-6S) Traditional UPS
Capacity scaling Add 6 kW modules as needed Fixed capacity
Redundancy Built-in N+1 Requires multiple systems
Runtime Modular battery expansion Less flexible
Maintenance Hot-swap, module-level service Full-system service
Lifecycle Extend capacity in place Replace at capacity

Configurations

Four capacities in one enclosure

Model Capacity Power modules Max charge current
M90S-6S6K 6 kVA / 6 kW 1 × 6 kW 4 A
M90S-6S12K 12 kVA / 12 kW 2 × 6 kW 8 A
M90S-6S18K 18 kVA / 18 kW 3 × 6 kW 12 A
M90S-6S24K 24 kVA / 24 kW 4 × 6 kW 16 A

All configurations share one enclosure (17.4 × 33.7 × 45.5 in) with six slots — four universal (power or battery) plus two battery-only, a maximum of four 6 kW power modules (24 kW). For N+1, add one power module beyond the load, so redundancy is available up to 18 kW (three load modules plus one redundant); at 24 kW all four power slots carry load, so the 24 kW configuration is a maximum-capacity, non-redundant build. Output is via terminal blocks and/or up to four configurable receptacle panels (NEMA 5-15/20R, L6-20/30R, L14-30R, IEC C19); the 6 kVA configuration offers a factory L14-30P line cord.

Battery runtimes

Runtime by load and battery module count

Runtime in minutes by kW configuration and number of installed battery modules, grouped by the battery-cabinet stage required (the 6S enclosure holds 5 modules; each BC7 cabinet adds 7). The stepped line tracks the six-slot enclosure sharing power and battery slots: the internal-battery maximum falls as more power modules are installed (5 modules at 6 kW down to 2 at 24 kW), with each BC7 cabinet adding seven slots beyond it. An asterisk marks runtimes that need an additional power module for recharge; a dash means that module count does not apply to the configuration.

Estimated minutes; values vary with battery age and site conditions. A maximum of eight battery modules is supported per power module; an asterisk (*) marks runtimes that require an additional power module for battery recharge. Applications

Where the M90S-6S is deployed

The M90S-6S is deployed across telecommunications infrastructure, industrial automation systems, broadcast environments, commercial facilities, and distributed technology environments — typically in electrical rooms supporting distributed infrastructure, where load is growing, redundancy is required within a single system, or multiple separate UPS have become difficult to manage but a three-phase upgrade is not yet warranted.
