Overview

Intelligent rack power distribution

The SPDU provides outlet-level switching and real-time power monitoring to support operational continuity and reduce service intervention in distributed environments. Each outlet supports independent control and metering – enabling remote reboot of unresponsive equipment, device-level load visibility, staged startup and power sequencing, and proactive capacity planning. A front-panel touch LCD shows load, voltage, temperature, and alarm conditions locally.

SPDU smart PDU — frequently asked questions

What does switched and metered-by-outlet mean?

Two separate capabilities in one unit. Metered-by-outlet means the PDU measures watts and energy at each individual receptacle rather than for the strip as a whole, so you can see what any one device is drawing. Switched means each receptacle can be turned on or off remotely and independently. A basic PDU does neither, and a metered-only PDU reports the total without telling you which device is responsible.

Can I reboot a device remotely without a site visit?

Yes. That is the main reason to specify one. Each outlet can be power-cycled from the web interface, so a locked-up router, camera, media player or signage device can be recovered without sending anyone. On a distributed estate the saved truck rolls usually pay for the PDU inside a year.

What is auto-reboot on connectivity loss?

The SPDU can watch a network target and power-cycle a chosen outlet automatically if it stops responding. It recovers the common case, a device that has hung and needs nothing more than a restart, before anyone notices. Useful on unstaffed sites where the alternative is waiting for someone to report the outage.

Which model do I need, the 6-outlet or the 14-outlet?

Count the devices, then look at depth. The SPDU-0615C is 1U and short-depth at 2.8 inches, which suits shallow AV racks, wall-mount enclosures and credenzas where a full-depth PDU will not fit. The SPDU-1415C is 2U with 14 outlets and 3240 J of surge protection, for full racks. Both are 120 V at 12 A continuous.

Does the SPDU replace a UPS?

No. It distributes and controls power but stores none, so the load drops when utility power does. It sits downstream of a UPS, taking the UPS output and dividing it among devices with per-outlet control. UPS for ride-through, SPDU for distribution and remote control.

Can I use it with an isolation transformer?

Not downstream of one. Isolation is established at the transformer output, and a switched PDU after it reintroduces a ground path that undoes most of the benefit. Where a load needs both isolation and outlet control, put the SPDU before the isolation transformer and connect the sensitive equipment directly to the transformer.

How does it connect to the network?

Ethernet, with a web interface for monitoring and control. Per-outlet power and energy figures are reported through the same interface.

What is the warranty?

Five years in the USA and Canada, on depot exchange terms with ground shipment one way. That is longer than most competing smart PDUs in this class.
