Mobile carts used in healthcare, dental imaging, telemedicine, AV, retail, and industrial environments often require continuous power while moving between rooms, workstations, or patient areas. Xtreme Power lithium UPS systems provide compact, lightweight, and reliable backup power designed specifically for these mobile applications.

Unlike traditional standby UPS deployments, mobile cart applications may cycle the battery multiple times per day as carts are unplugged, moved, and reconnected throughout the day. Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery technology is significantly better suited for these repetitive shallow-discharge applications than traditional lead-acid UPS systems.

Thousands of XPC lithium UPS systems have been deployed in kiosk, healthcare, and embedded infrastructure environments where compact size, long battery service life, and reliable operation are critical. XPC J60, J60C, and J90 lithium UPS systems are UL listed, FCC compliant, and available in TAA-compliant configurations for commercial and regulated deployments.

Common Mobile Cart Applications

Dental Scanning Carts

Dental scanning carts often include intraoral scanners, displays, computing devices, and network equipment that must remain powered while moving between operatories. Compact lithium UPS systems help maintain continuous operation without adding excessive size or weight to the cart.

Telemedicine Carts

Telemedicine carts support remote patient consultations using displays, cameras, microphones, and computing systems. Reliable UPS protection helps maintain operation while carts move between patient rooms and clinical areas.

Mobile Clinician Workstations

Workstation-on-wheels (WOW) carts and mobile clinician stations rely on continuous operation for electronic medical records, barcode scanning, and patient care workflows.

Mobile Imaging Systems

Portable imaging carts and diagnostic workstations benefit from compact UPS systems capable of supporting sensitive electronics during transport and power interruptions.

AV and Presentation Carts

Mobile AV systems used in classrooms, conference rooms, training facilities, and event spaces require reliable backup power during movement and temporary power disruptions.

Industrial and Retail Mobile Workstations

Mobile workstations used in warehouses, manufacturing environments, and retail applications often require uninterrupted operation while moving between locations.

Why Lithium UPS Technology Works Better for Mobile Carts

Traditional lead-acid UPS systems are primarily designed for standby operation with infrequent battery discharge events. Mobile cart applications create a much more demanding duty cycle with repeated discharge and recharge activity throughout the day.

Lithium UPS systems provide several important advantages for mobile applications, including reduced weight, faster recharge capability, longer battery service life, compact size, maintenance-free operation, and improved tolerance for repetitive cycling.

XPC lithium UPS systems use Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery technology designed for long operational life and improved thermal stability in demanding mobile applications.

Recommended UPS Systems for Mobile Cart Applications

J60 UPS Series

The J60 Series provides ultra-compact lithium UPS protection for embedded and mobile applications where space and weight are critical. The J60 is typically the best fit for dental carts, telemedicine carts, workstation-on-wheels systems, and compact mobile computing applications.

The compact footprint, lightweight lithium battery design, quiet operation, and flexible mounting options make the J60 well suited for integration directly into mobile carts and medical workstations.

J60C Short-Depth Rack UPS

The J60C Series combines lithium battery technology with an ultra-short-depth 1U rackmount design ideal for mobile AV systems, shallow equipment enclosures, and portable rack applications.  The J60C is best suited for carts or mobile cabinets that already use rackmount equipment and require a compact rack-integrated UPS solution.

J90 Lithium UPS Series

The J90 Series provides higher-capacity online double-conversion lithium UPS protection for larger mobile carts and more critical workstation applications.  The J90 is typically the best choice for higher-power imaging carts, multi-display telemedicine systems, and mobile environments where online double-conversion power protection is preferred.

Battery Life in Mobile Cart Applications

Mobile cart applications place significantly different demands on UPS batteries than traditional standby UPS installations. In many cart environments, the UPS may discharge and recharge multiple times per day as carts move between rooms, operatories, patient areas, or workstations.

Traditional lead-acid UPS batteries are primarily designed for occasional backup events and typically support approximately 300–500 partial discharge cycles before significant capacity degradation occurs. In contrast, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery technology used in XPC lithium UPS systems is designed for approximately 3,000–5,000 partial discharge cycles under ideal operating conditions.

This improved cycle capability makes lithium UPS systems substantially better suited for:

  • Dental scanning carts
  • Telemedicine carts
  • Mobile clinician workstations
  • AV carts
  • Mobile imaging systems
  • Frequently moved mobile workstations

Actual battery service life will depend on several operating factors, including:

  • Number of daily discharge cycles
  • Load level during operation
  • Depth of discharge
  • Ambient temperature
  • Recharge opportunity between uses

For best long-term battery performance, carts should remain connected to utility power whenever stationary to maximize recharge opportunity and reduce unnecessary battery cycling.
