PMC: Ethernet and Redfish monitoring for every XPC DC shelf

The Power Monitoring Controller is the hot-pluggable controller in every XPC DC power and battery
shelf. It collects telemetry, alarms and inventory from up to six modules and presents them to the rack management
network over DMTF Redfish, with a built-in web interface and security built into the hardware.

Architecture

How the PMC connects

Each shelf connects to the management network through its own PMC, over a gigabit Ethernet port to the
top-of-rack switch. Inside the shelf, the PMC reads every module over PMBus. Power conversion, battery operation and
protection stay inside each module, so the shelf keeps running if the PMC is removed or replaced.

Key Features

What the PMC gives you

Standards

DMTF Redfish
Standard Redfish resources for shelves, power supplies and sensors, plus a built-in web interface.
Telemetry

Per-module readings
Input and output voltage, current and power, fan speeds and temperatures for every module.
Alarms

Thresholds and events
Settable thresholds on every sensor, with Redfish event subscriptions and metric reports.
Diagnostics

Waveform capture
On-demand capture of six internal signals, including bulk capacitor voltage and AC input current.
Security

Hardware root of trust
Signed firmware with anti-rollback and automatic recovery; role-based access with a full audit log.
Service

Updates without downtime
PMC and module firmware updated through Redfish, one module at a time, without interrupting shelf power.
