AXL33 — 50 VDC Power Shelf for AI and ORv3 Rack Infrastructure

Category:

The Xtreme Power AXL33 is a high-density AC-to-DC power platform designed to deliver 50 VDC directly at the rack for AI, GPU, and Open Compute Project (OCP) environments.

AXL33 converts single- or three-phase AC input into regulated 50 VDC, eliminating server-level AC-DC conversion and simplifying rack power design. With 33 kW per 1U, integrated control, and modular battery backup, AXL33 supports scalable, high-density AI infrastructure.

Where AXL33 Fits

AXL33 operates as a rack-level AC-to-DC power platform, delivering 50 VDC directly to IT equipment.

It is deployed in:

  • ORv3 and Open Rack environments
  • AI and GPU compute racks
  • High-density AC-fed rack architectures

Within the Xtreme Power portfolio:

  • Traditional UPS systems → AC distribution to racks
  • AXL33 → AC to 50 VDC conversion at the rack
  • HVDC platforms (AX / DX) → centralized DC architectures

AXL33 is selected when rack-level DC delivery and simplified power architecture are prioritized.

Designed for ORv3 and High-Density Racks

AXL33 aligns with Open Rack V3 (ORv3) and similar high-density rack architectures. Delivering 50 VDC directly at the rack supports IT equipment designed for DC input and removes the need for internal AC-DC conversion within servers.

This approach reduces system complexity, improves efficiency, and aligns with hyperscale infrastructure standards.

High-Density 1OU Power Shelf

AXL33 delivers up to 33 kW in a compact 1OU form factor, enabling high rack power density without consuming valuable rack space. Multiple shelves can be deployed in parallel to scale rack capacity up to 132 kW, supporting both current and next-generation AI deployments.

Scalable Modular Architecture

AXL33 uses modular 5.5 kW power supply units operating in parallel within the shelf. This architecture supports:

  • Incremental capacity expansion
  • Flexible redundancy (N+0, N+1, N+N)
  • Simplified service and maintenance

Hot-swappable modules allow capacity expansion and service without interrupting operation, enabling continuous uptime in critical environments.

Integrated Control and Coordination (PMM)

Each AXL33 shelf includes an integrated Power Management Module (PMM) that provides system-level monitoring and control.

PMM enables:

  • Aggregated module monitoring
  • Multi-shelf communication via Modbus and CAN
  • Automatic addressing across shelves
  • Coordinated operation of parallel systems

This control architecture simplifies deployment and supports scalable rack-level power systems.

Modular Battery Backup (BBU)

AXL33 supports a modular Battery Backup Unit (BBU) system designed to provide short-duration ride-through for AI and high-density compute environments.  The BBU system:

  • Provides scalable ride-through capability
  • Uses hot-swappable battery modules
  • Supports parallel deployment across shelves
  • Integrates with PMM for system-level monitoring

This improves resilience and supports continued operation during upstream power disturbances.

Efficient Rack-Level Power Delivery

By converting AC power at the rack and delivering 50 VDC directly to IT equipment, AXL33 reduces conversion stages and improves overall system efficiency. This approach:

  • Reduces power losses
  • Simplifies rack power architecture
  • Supports higher rack densities

These benefits are critical in AI environments where power efficiency and density directly impact infrastructure performance.

Capacity Guidance

AXL33 is typically deployed in multi-shelf configurations depending on rack power requirements.

  • 1 shelf: up to 33 kW
  • 2–3 shelves: mid-density AI racks
  • 4 shelves: up to 132 kW high-density racks

This modular approach allows capacity to scale with compute demand without redesigning the power architecture.

Deployment Model

AXL33 is designed for AC-fed rack deployments, converting incoming AC power directly to 50 VDC at the rack. This simplifies infrastructure by avoiding upstream DC conversion and enables deployment within existing AC-powered data centers.

Applications

AXL33 is designed for environments requiring high-density rack-level DC power:

  • AI and GPU compute clusters
  • Hyperscale and cloud infrastructure
  • Open Rack / ORv3 deployments
  • High-density edge and modular data centers
